Torres, do we have dress ‘laws’?

The dress codes that exist among ELARA
Torres, do we have dress ‘laws’?

Imagine a school with no dress restrictions, a school with free student representation of clothes. What do the kids wear and what do they feel that they have no limit on them? Wells is a current student at East Los Angeles Renaissance Academy and with the help of research, It can be confirmed that Renassicane does not have a  Dress code. As further confirmation there is no info about a dress code on the official Renaissance website – Renaissance official Website.

As another confirmation of Renaissance’s own PSA Attendance Mr. Hall stated “No I don’t think so, or I wasn’t told”. Even students acknowledge this by wearing many different styles of clothing ranging from PJs to suits. So how do students, staff, and even other students from different academies feel that we have a non-existent dress code? So to find out we interviewed them asking various questions such as “How do you feel that we have no dress code?” and “Should we have a dress code?”.

The first interviewee was  Anthony Gracia, a senior and the A.S.B President for Renaissance stated “I feel comfortable wearing the clothes he loves but maybe add a limitation that will reduce profanity and explicit content.” As for the second interviewee, the current 11th-grade English Teacher at Renaissance, Ms. Perini stated, “Kids should be able to wear what they want, they are old enough but I do feel that there should be a limit to the amount of inappropriate wear and also a limit for very skin-showing crop tops.” To sum up, what both said is that they enjoy having freedom with clothes however, both want some limitations to clothes. On the other hand, I interviewed two students from two different academies.

The two Students are ASB President Xavier Sim who is from HAAT and the other is Noah Morlas, a student of Social Justice and also a former Renaissance student. For them, they were given the same questions as the first two interviewees. For Xavier, he stated, “Well, at HAAT we already have the limitation of skin-tight clothes and inappropriate wear, and overall everything is fine, I see no one complaining or having an issue with it. So I see that the limitation is needed”. Now for Noah he stated “ I love what I wear and if they add rules or things. I will just break them, I will wear what I want to wear. So no rules, just keep it the same.” To sum them up Xavier Academy has limitations and they are doing fine. On the polar opposite, Noah admits that he will break the rules just to wear what he wants. So in Grand, totally a small limitation won’t harm or change anything. But for school safety or potential problems, the school should add a small limitation to be better safe than sorry.
