As more I.C.E Agents make their way to East LA the community is undergoing fear and disruption over these harsh times. This country has failed us humans and so has the presidents of the United States of America. People from East LA are coming out and all around California to protest for the NO KING DAY, people are seeing that this is now history. Some of the issues that people are not seeing are that Trump Policies are wrong and are not leading a good role model for anyone. NO KING Day is about the “No Dictators” and “No Tyrants” protest. Which means that the people are against authoritarian rule (A system of government in which political power is concentrated in one hand of a single leader). The NO KING day happened on June 14, 2025, and October 18, 2025. Both days were very important as many people united to protest around the world, so the word “NO KING” would spread around the world. Spreading the word and the issues about Trump’s policies would help people learn about what is going on in their community as not only does social media help with giving that message out but so do the people. All of these protests are happening because Donald Trump’s policies are getting out of hand and a lot of people from California are not liking what he is doing, as he is sending a lot of I.C.E agents out to “kidnap” people without any type of warrant and being discriminated against for the color of their skin. After interviewing Angel Cos, a senior at ELARA, he stated that, “The No King’s protest was a really heartwarming experience. First, I thought that protests were meaningless, that people only gathered up to make messes and used it as an excuse to go and riot, but what I realized was that I had fallen into what social media says. The protest was so much different than what it was portrayed as, I saw so many people walking and speaking out on how they felt. For hours people walked non stop holding their signs in the heat, people speaking loudly even when it burnt their throat. These people weren’t there to just march, they were there to be heard and to portray their opinion against what our president has been doing. The No King’s protest brought so many people together. It wasn’t only Hispanics but I had seen many diversities, Asians, Whites, and every other different race. Seeing how people are willing to get together to speak out on what’s wrong really made me feel proud, it made me feel pride in our country, the people”. This quote shows that people can feel passionate towards something that people are being affected by. Some stores that were impacted in the community due to I.C.E were, marketing, bread store, flea market, etc. Not only was it hard for people to make money for their family but also for the basic necessities like food. “For hours people walked non stop holding their signs in the heat, people speaking loudly even when it burnt their throat.” said Angel Cos, a senior who participated in the “NO KINGS” protest. This impacted Angel Cos and his emotions because he felt good being part of something important that can change the future not only for us teenagers but for the future generations to come. Many students at ELARA go through this same situation that has affected their families and friends. Sometimes making education extremely hard to concentrate on. According to a 2025 NPR news & broadcast article, “This beloved Mexican market in LA is losing business amid immigration raids”, really highlighting the negative impacts that I.CE. raids around LA have on local business. The Mercadito in Boyle Heights was seen as a ghost town as not many workers were there due to fear. Not only was the Mercadito like a ghost town but so was the area around it, as people grew up around there it was weird for them not to see the socializing. This affected East LA students as the school season was rolling around and people would usually go and shop at the Mercadito for school supplies such as pencils, colors, backpacks, shoes, etc. It affected the children from East LA by having to reuse what they had and making it hard for the parents to get their students these necessities for their education. As more people were getting to know about the NO KING protest they decided to make another NO KING protest to spread the word out before the Trump administration. After interviewing someone anonymous who was in the ‘No King’s’ protest they said “ The NO KING’s protest is not only to stop his administration but also for our future generation.” said Anonymous. Many are protesting to make history something better as history is changing and so are people’s minds. Not only thinking of the future we have in our hands but for themselves. East LA is a strong community that stands together when someone like I.C.E messes with the people. Together they create a strong bond that works together to not be fearful. In 1968 there was an East LA Walkouts, thousands of Chicano students walked out of high school to protest about the system they felt was discriminatory and neglectful. The issue was that students were frustrated with high dropout rates, lacked Mexican- American history and culture, etc. Making these students feel that the District failed to give them that care. In the past eighty seven years, East LA schools have experienced many walkouts for many different reasons. Students also walked out to protest about immigration “La Migra”. The Chicano walkout matters because not only does it show that there has been a problem with Latinos showing their culture around or being around people who talk bad about them so much. Protesting and making group announcements on when to protest or participating can make a change as is freedom of speech. Being able to give that voice that people do not have. Students at East Los Angeles Renaissance Academy had published a site for the families who were affected by I.C.E raids. This helped families get in contact with people who could help them. Doing what is right and taking action can really help not just one person but many other people who are not able to stand up for themselves. Which can help them feel safer with the community’s help. Some people feel like they have so much power over other people by telling them to “Go back to your country” while they themselves are standing on stolen land. Feeling so powerful that they can make them feel like they have everything they want. These are not jokes to tell around and make people feel scared and uncomfortable but it is a real life situation. As more people forget that there are still families being taken away, they prefer to scroll on their phone and be careless about someone’s “American Dream”.
