At Sunrise Elementary School in East Los Angeles, a first-grade teacher has been charged with sexually assaulting 6 female students!!! The first-grade named Martin Reyes Jr., age 29, is charged with 10 counts of lewd acts on a child under the age of 14. The authorities began their investigation after a student claimed to have allegedly been sexually abused by Reyes on May 22, 2023. Investigators reported that Reyes sexually abused 6 female students who are enrolled in his class. Reyes was arrested on Monday and the authorities are seeking help to identify other victims. Reyes is due back at the downtown courthouse on Sep. 27, 2023, and is scheduled to be set for a hearing to determine if there is sufficient evidence to allow the case against him to proceed to trial. This is important because teachers are sexually active around students. This is a problem for us students because we want a teacher who can be trusted with kids. This is traumatizing to the kids and parents because they put their trust in a teacher. This matters because the community should be a safe place where kids can study and be educated safely. This also matters because we kids should have trust in the teachers and not be sexually assaulted.
