Matthew Perry was found dead in his home on October 28, 2023. He was found in his hot tub unresponsive by law enforcement. No drugs were found at the scene but medications were recovered at home causing a toxicology to be investigated. His costars and family have been devastated by this news. Many fans and people who knew Perry are now paying tribute to him. 

‘Friends’ aired in 1994, starring Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer. “We are devastated by the passing of our dear friend Matthew Perry,” said Warner Bros. Television group which had produced ‘Friends.’ Many were impacted by his comedy. Perry’s neighbor Peter described him as “very pleasant” and a “nice guy”. It was shocking for Peter to learn about his dear neighbor. 

In the past, Matthew Perry had been associated with addiction. He was addicted to alcohol and opioids. His efforts to get sober included being in rehab many times. His addiction had caused him to have many health problems one of which was having a colon rupture with only a 2% chance to live. “…the American dream is not making me happy, not filling the holes in my life…” stated Matthew Perry to The Times.

Perry’s friends and fans remembered him by writing meaningful statements toward him. “The joy you brought to so many in your too-short lifetime will live on,” stated co-star Maggie Wheeler who played is on and off again girlfriend on Friends.  Jennifer Aniston stated that she missed him and enjoyed how he made everyone laugh. Fans have left many flowers in the apartment building used when filming ‘Friends.’ Matthew Perry wanted to help others who were suffering. His legacy will continue to live on through his family, friends, and fans. He wanted to be remembered, “As a guy who lived life, loved well, lived well and helped people. That running into me was a good thing, and not something bad.”
