Lawmakers and worker groups in California want laws that say self-driving vehicles must have a human driver, not just robots. They worry about safety after accidents with self-driving cars from companies like General Motors and Alphabet. The new laws would give cities more say in giving permits for self-driving cars. This comes after a similar law was stopped last year by the governor. The Teamsters Union supports these rules because they’re worried about safety and losing jobs. But some people think making rules for self-driving cars is hard because tech companies are a big part of California’s economy. How these laws may affect our community as well, is that they will reduce vehicle advancements but create a safer road.
