Body camera footage from November 12, 2023, was released recently to the public around this week of a police officer firing shots at an unarmed man due to thoughts of suppressed fire coming from the suspect. When in reality it was the sound of an acorn that hit the top of the cruiser making the “alleged” sound. Former deputy Officer Jesse Hernandez, now under investigation and resigned, had been reported to have used “excessive force” for something so trivial. Although the suspect Marquis Jackson was cleared of any wrongdoing, his experience with the situation was shown to traumatize him as “this is the first time I’ve been shot at”. This relates to our community since police have had the occasional mess up and cost the lives of those near and dear to us. We must spread awareness that situations like these never happened to us.
