On Labor day weekend, a 911 call was picked up at around 5:30pm in the Chicago Transit Authority Blue Line train. It was reported that Four people had been shot, but only 2 were identified; 60-year-old Adrian Collins and 28-year-old Simeon Bihesi. The motive of these shootings were unclear as the security footage had shown no previous conflict between the shooter and the riders. 3 were killed in their sleep and 1 later died in the hospital. The culprit Rhanni Davis is now being convicted with 4 charges of first degree murder as he was caught 90 minutes after the shooting.
The people of Chicago, such as Orlanda Lee, express their concerns of the location of the transit center as many homeless and shady people occupy the area, as well as expressing the demand of increased police presence around the area. This event will affect millions of people’s mental image of public spaces, almost never feeling safe.
